She was 44 years old
Simona was a famous writer, she wrote 30 novels for women and some of them were adapted into films. In 2003 she married a TV photographer. At that time she raised two sons, and they both had a third son. They jointly owned “Mona Publishing”, where her books were published.
According to friends, the husband mentally and physically abused Simona for a long time, he was jealous and his aggressive behavior escalated. Simona often wrote about domestic violence in her novels, she also left calls for help in text messages to friends, but it was not enough.
In August 2011, the couple were already in divorce proceedings. On the fateful evening, he arrived at her house with a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates, asking to put their son to sleep. An argument broke out and Simona's husband stabbed her six times in the stomach and chest. Then he stabbed himself and jumped out of the window in order to cause serious injuries to himself. The paramedics found him bleeding in the front of the house. He started shouting at them not to help him, but his wife. It was this "tribute" that ultimately spared him three years behind bars, because the court took into account that he called for help for Simona.
He claimed in court that he did not remember anything.
After Simone's tragic death, not only her book sales increased, but also the number of calls to domestic violence centers - her death gave courage to many women.
The murderer was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
